Kolkata, 16 October (H.S.). West Bengal BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar on Thursday launched a strong attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress over the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list, alleging that the party is spreading confusion and engaging in illegal activities to influence the process.
Sarkar said that as the SIR process progresses, the Trinamool Congress is becoming increasingly agitated. He pointed out that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Chief Secretary have instructed that under no circumstances should any voter’s name be removed. According to the BJP spokesperson, this directive effectively demands that the names of deceased voters, Bangladeshi infiltrators, Muslim voters from Myanmar (Rohingyas), and those who have permanently moved to other states remain on the voter list.
He further accused Trinamool ministers and leaders of interfering in the SIR process. Sarkar specifically cited Minister Tajimul Hossain from Harishchandrapur, who allegedly attacked the Election Commission, insisting that while the SIR should proceed, no voter from his area should have their name removed. Trinamool leader Sayantika Banerjee reportedly questioned whether the party would survive if SIR is implemented.
“Just imagine the scenario,” Sarkar said. “If the SIR is conducted properly, fake voters linked to the Trinamool Congress will be removed, along with votes of Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas whom the TMC government has been sheltering. This is why the Trinamool Congress is spreading confusion and misleading the public.”
Sarkar clarified that the BJP will ensure that illegal voters, Rohingyas, deceased voters, and individuals who have permanently moved to other states are not included in the voter list. He also alleged that the Trinamool Congress is pressuring Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to add illegal names to the electoral rolls.
The BJP emphasized that it will take a firm stand at every booth to prevent such malpractice, and the fight will continue until a clean and accurate voter list is published. The spokesperson stressed that the people of West Bengal will stand with the BJP in this struggle.
