Jalpaiguri, 16 October (H.S.):

One more accused has been arrested in connection with the attack on Malda North BJP MP Khagen Murmu and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh in Nagrakata. The arrested accused has been identified as Mannan Sarkar.The police from Nagrakata police station arrested the accused after a search late Wednesday night. He will be produced in the Jalpaiguri District Court on Thursday. This brings the total number of arrests in this case to six.

All five people previously arrested in connection with the incident are currently in jail. Like the others, Mannan has been charged under various sections, including attempt to murder and the SC/ST Atrocities Act. The police stated that the accused were arrested based on evidence. They clarified that no one involved in this attack will be spared.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has called for a protest march in Nagrakata on Thursday to protest the attack on Khagen and Shankar.
