Alipurduar, 15 October (H.S.): A young man attacked a woman with acid and a sharp weapon in New Alipurduar area of Alipurduar district late Tuesday night. Locals apprehended the accused. The police later arrived and took him to the police station. According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Indrajit Mukherjee, a resident of Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district. As per information, Indrajit moved to the area about four years ago and became attracted to the woman. The incident occurred after she rejected him several times.

The woman was returning home from a hotel when the accused attacked her. Upon hearing her screams, bystanders apprehended him and handed him over to the police. The injured woman was immediately admitted to the Alipurduar District Hospital, where she was found to have serious injuries to her face and left eye. As her condition worsened, she was referred to Alipurduar Medical College.

Alipurduar police presented the accused in court on Wednesday.
