Oil tanker rams auto, two dead, three critical in Haldia


East Medinipur, 15 October (H.S.): At least two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident that occurred in Haldia area of East Medinipur district on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pramanik (45) and Suresh Mandal (59). The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

As per information, an auto carrying seven passengers from the Ranichak area, heading towards the city center, collided head-on with an oil tanker coming from Haldia direction. The impact was so severe that the auto was completely damaged.

Two passengers died on the spot in the accident. Ranjan Pramanik was a resident of the Gangra area of Nandigram, while Suresh Mandal was a resident of the Vishnu Ramchak area.

Two other passengers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after first aid. Three injured are being treated at the Tamluk District Hospital.

On information, the police from Haldia police station arrived at the scene and began rescue operations.

Local residents alleged that the area has seen an increase in reckless and high-speed vehicles.
