Kolkata, 15 October (H.S.):
Four Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian have been arrested in West Bengal’s border district of Murshidabad during a special police operation, officials said on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the four Bangladeshis had illegally entered India through the porous Lalgola border on Monday evening and were later found hiding at a local residence allegedly arranged by the arrested Indian national. Acting on a tip-off, Murshidabad police launched an overnight search operation on Tuesday and apprehended all five suspects from the Lalgola area.
Authorities said the purpose of the foreign nationals’ illegal entry is under investigation. Police are also searching for two other Indian suspects believed to have assisted in the infiltration.
All the accused were produced before the Murshidabad district court and have been remanded to police custody for interrogation.
Officials added that this arrest follows a similar incident reported recently in Murshidabad’s Raninagar area, where four Bangladeshi nationals were detained for illegal entry. They were caught from the Harudanga locality in a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police.
