DNA Test Completed for All Five Arrested in Durgapur Gang-Rape Case; Report Awaited

Kolkata, 15 October (H.S.): The DNA tests of all five accused arrested in connection with the Durgapur Medical College gang-rape case have been completed, police officials confirmed on Wednesday. The investigation team is now awaiting the DNA report, which will play a crucial role in determining each accused’s direct involvement in the crime.

An investigating officer said that the DNA findings would help establish the sequence of events and identify those who physically participated in the assault. “The report will be key to guiding the next phase of the investigation,” the officer added.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8 p.m. on Friday when the victim, a student of Durgapur Medical College, went out with her boyfriend. She was later allegedly gang-raped. Between Saturday and Monday, five youths were arrested in connection with the case, and all of them have now undergone DNA testing.

Durgapur Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Choudhary said the investigation is progressing rapidly. “No one involved in this heinous crime will be spared,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, hospital sources reported that the survivor’s condition is gradually improving. Her father has demanded a CBI inquiry to ensure a fair investigation. The victim’s boyfriend, Wasif Ali, who had accompanied her on the night of the incident, has also been arrested by the police.
