Cachar (Assam), 14 October (HS): In view of rising concerns over possible extremist movements and unauthorized cross-border activities, Cachar District Magistrate Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The move aims to maintain peace and prevent illegal transport of goods and cattle along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh border areas.
According to the order, movement of any person between sunset and sunrise has been strictly prohibited within a one-kilometre belt of the Indo-Bangladesh border in Cachar district. Similar restrictions have also been imposed along the Surma River and its high banks within Indian territory during the same hours. Boating for fishing has been banned unless special permission is obtained from the Circle Officer of Katigorah for personal consumption, in coordination with the lessee and with prior intimation to the District Magistrate and the Commandant of the 170th Battalion, BSF, Dholcherra.
The order further bans transportation of essential commodities like sugar, rice, wheat, edible oil, kerosene and salt between sunset and sunrise within a five-kilometre belt inside the district boundary along the Bangladesh border. However, under special circumstances, the Circle Officer of Katigorah may grant temporary relaxation for specific purposes, after due verification from local supply officials. Copies of such permissions must be sent to the District Magistrate and the BSF Commandant.
The order, issued ex parte in the interest of public safety, has come into immediate effect and will remain valid for two months unless withdrawn or modified earlier. It exempts State and Central Government officials performing official duties in the border areas.
District Magistrate Mridul Yadav stated that the preventive measures are intended to ensure peace and stability in the border belt and to prevent any activities that might threaten public order or national security.---------
