Burdwan, 14 October (H.S.): An 18-day-old baby boy suddenly went missing at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The hospital administration and the police immediately initiated an investigation into the matter.

As per information, the baby's mother, Salefa Bibi, had gone to the hospital's outdoor clinic for her child's treatment, accompanied by her mother, Hamida Bibi. The baby's father, Sujal Sheikh, had gone to get medicine. Salefa and her mother were sitting on the veranda in front of the obstetrics department while awaiting treatment.

Suddenly, a woman wearing yellow chudadar approached them and briefly took the baby in her arms and began fondling him. After a few seconds of distraction, the woman took the baby and fled.

The mother's cries stirred nearby patients and their relatives, prompting a search for the baby. Salefa immediately called her husband and informed him of the incident. Sujal Sheikh immediately went to the hospital police camp and filed a complaint.

According to the police, the family's home is in Balrampur, Kirnahar, Birbhum district. An investigation has been initiated into all CCTV footage from the hospital, and a search operation is underway to find the missing child. The incident has created fear among the patients and their families. Security arrangements have also been questioned.

District DSP (Headquarters) Debashis Chakraborty and Burdwan Police Station Inspector incharge Dibyendu Das arrived at the hospital, but they did not immediately comment.
