Bhubaneswar, 12 October (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday spoke over the phone with the father of the Odia girl who was gang-raped in Durgapur, West Bengal, and expressed his deep condolences and solidarity with the family.

During the conversation, Chief Minister Majhi said, “I am deeply pained and distressed after learning about your daughter’s ordeal.”

The Chief Minister empathized with the father’s anguish, saying, “As a father myself, I can understand the emotional trauma and suffering you are going through.” He assured that both he personally and the Odisha Government stand firmly with the family during this difficult time.

Majhi emphasized that the State Government is making every effort to ensure the victim’s speedy recovery and rehabilitation so that she can return to a normal life at the earliest. He further informed that a strong demand has been placed before the Chief Minister of West Bengal for exemplary and stringent punishment for the culprits involved in the heinous crime.

A senior Odisha official has been assigned to stay in constant touch with the West Bengal Government to provide all necessary legal and administrative assistance, the Chief Minister stated.

Chief Minister Majhi has also directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Balasore to maintain coordination with Durgapur Police and extend every possible help to the victim’s family. He assured that if any further assistance is required, the Odisha Government will promptly arrange it.

Expressing gratitude, the victim’s father thanked Chief Minister Majhi for his concern, compassion, and timely intervention, acknowledging his assurance of full support from the state government.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his government is fully committed to ensuring justice for the victim and that the perpetrators will face the strictest punishment under the law.
