Winter Knocks on Delhi’s Door! City Feels First Chill, IMD Promises a Bright Weekend

Delhi, 11 October (H.S.): The national capital woke up to a pleasant and slightly chilly morning on Saturday, as temperatures dipped further, signalling the early arrival of the winter season. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.6 degrees below the seasonal average.

On Friday, the city experienced its first dip below the 20-degree mark for the 2025–26 winter season, with a minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius, marking the official onset of the cooler spell. The IMD attributed the temperature fall to clear skies, dry northwesterly winds, and reduced cloud cover over the northern plains.

“The recent drop in night temperatures is a sign of the changing season. Delhi is likely to continue experiencing clear skies and comfortable weather over the next few days,” said an IMD official.

The maximum temperature on Saturday is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius, while daytime conditions will remain sunny and dry. The relative humidity was recorded at 84 per cent at 8:30 am, indicating mild morning moisture, which is expected to reduce as the day progresses.

The IMD’s extended forecast suggests that the coming week will witness gradual cooling, particularly during early mornings and late evenings, with temperatures likely to settle between 18°C and 32°C. No rainfall has been predicted for the weekend.

Residents, especially early risers and outdoor joggers, have already begun to feel the “nip in the air,” as the city transitions from the humid post-monsoon phase into a more refreshing climate. The pleasant weather is also expected to bring some respite from pollution levels, which tend to rise later in the season as wind speeds drop.

With Delhi’s iconic winter just around the corner, the IMD has advised citizens to prepare for cooler nights in the coming days while continuing to enjoy clear and crisp mornings over the weekend.
