Delhi, 11 October (H.S.): Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who took his own life recently.
In a heartfelt letter to his wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, Sonia conveyed her condolences and solidarity during this time of profound grief.Describing the incident as “deeply tragic and heart-wrenching,” Gandhi said that she, along with the entire nation, stood with Amneet Kumar and her family through their loss.
“The passing of Y. Puran Kumar will continue to remind us of the intense mental and professional challenges faced by our police forces—challenges that require a compassionate approach and sustained institutional support,” she wrote.
Y. Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer from the Telangana cadre, was renowned for his service and dedication. His untimely death has sparked concerns over occupational stress and mental well-being among law enforcement officials.Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently underway.
