West Bengal, 11 October (H.S.):A panic gripped the Zilla Parishad office in Alipurduar district on Friday evening when a hacking alert appeared on the Zilla Parishad's official website. Upon opening the website, a Pakistani flag and a misspelled threatening message appeared on the screen. The message threatened India's Digital India initiative.
According to sources, the message surfaced on Friday evening when the Zilla Parishad website's tender section was opened. It stated, The dream of Digital India will never be realized because Pakistan will repeatedly obstruct this dream through hacking, spreading fear, and stealing data.
The incident caused chaos in the office. Zilla Parishad Chairperson Snigdha Shaiva was immediately informed. She arrived at the scene and investigated the matter. The website maintenance company was also immediately informed.
The company has assured the Zilla Parishad that the website will be fixed by Saturday morning. Snigdha Shaiva said, The Pakistani flag and message appeared on the website, but so far no evidence has been found to suggest any criminal activity or data theft. Therefore, no police complaint has been filed yet.
Following the incident, rumors spread locally that the website had been hacked from Pakistan. However, officials say this can only be confirmed after an investigation. Currently, the administration has taken the matter seriously and contacted cybersecurity agencies.
This incident is once again raising questions about the security of government websites in the state.
