Bhubaneswar, 11 October (H.S.): One person was killed and at least 15 others sustained injuries when a government-run bus overturned at Gadiapada Ghati near Khajuripada in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya Das, the bus conductor, a resident of Kanhiapal in Dhenkanal district.
According to officials , the mishap occurred when the bus, which was en route from Lanjigarh to Cuttack, lost balance on a hilly stretch near Khajuripada and overturned. Local residents and police immediately rushed to the spot to rescue the injured passengers.
All the injured were taken to Khajuripada Hospital for medical treatment, while arrangements were made for alternative transport to help the remaining passengers continue their journey.
Meanwhile, the Khajuripada Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest that the vehicle may have skidded due to a sharp turn or poor road conditions in the area.
