Brisbane, October 01 (HS): Indian Under-19 batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi struck a blistering century on the second day of the first Youth Test against Australia U-19, steering India to a commanding first-innings lead. Suryavanshi raced to his ton in just 78 balls, powering India to a total of 428 in their opening innings.

At stumps, Australia were struggling at 8 for 1, with opener Alex Lee Young dismissed for a duck by pacer Dipesh Devendran.Suryavanshi eventually scored 113 runs off only 86 deliveries, laced with 9 fours and 8 sixes. He reached his century by smacking a four and a six, becoming the second fastest centurion in Youth Test history.

The record remains with Ayush Mhatre, who had smashed a hundred in just 64 balls. With this knock, Suryawanshi also became the youngest batsman to score a hundred on Australian soil in Youth Test cricket, breaking the mark set by local star Liam Blackford, who had made a century off 124 balls against England in 2023.

The year 2025 has already been remarkable for Suryavanshi. On the tour of England in July, he became the first player under the age of 15 to record both a half-century and take a wicket in the same Youth Test. He also equalled Brendon McCullum’s record of two hundreds scored in under 100 balls.

Backing him up, Vedant Trivedi produced a composed innings of 140 runs off 192 balls, striking 19 boundaries. The crucial partnership between Suryavanshi and Trivedi lifted India to their imposing first-innings total of 428.

Australia, who had scored 243 in their first innings, were left trailing by 177 runs at the close of play on Day 2, with the scoreboard reading 8 for 1 in their second essay.
