Chennai, 1 October (H.S.) : In a deeply disturbing incident from Tamil Nadu, two police personnel in Tiruvannamalai district have been arrested following allegations that they sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh. The incident reportedly occurred on September 30 near the Eendhal bypass.

The victim was traveling at the time with her mother and uncle when they were allegedly intercepted by the accused officers. Police sources indicate that the officers then proceeded to assault the young woman. Following an official complaint lodged regarding the grave allegations, a case was swiftly registered against the two personnel, leading to their immediate arrest. The case has sparked significant outrage, drawing strong condemnation from political leaders across the state and raising serious questions about the safety of women.

Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami publicly expressed his shock regarding the incident and described it as the height of insecurity for women in the state. Condemning the government for what he termed a lapse in law and order, he challenged the Chief Minister, asking what the CM would say about the atrocity committed by policemen who are officially tasked with ensuring women's safety. Palaniswami further stated that the Chief Minister should hang his head in shame for this disgraceful incident.

He also issued a demand for immediate medical care and support for the victim and called for the sternest legal action to be taken against the perpetrators. The police department confirmed that following the formal complaint, both officers were arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway.
