Dhaka, October 1 (HS): Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his nomination from the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, scheduled to be held on October 6.The left-handed opener arrived at the BCB headquarters on Wednesday (October 1) and formally retracted his nomination papers.
In a subsequent press conference, Tamim said, “Today we have withdrawn our nominations. Around 14–15 others, including myself, have also done so. The reason is very clear. I don’t need to give you a detailed explanation.”
Tamim had earlier expressed interest in contesting the elections for the position of director in the BCB, but at the last moment he changed his mind. After filing his nomination, he openly accused the government of interference. He said, “From the very beginning, I was saying in which direction this election was heading and how it was being conducted. Whatever seemed right at that moment was being done. This is not an election, and it is not appropriate for cricket. It is, in a way, an insult to us that we cannot be part of this mess.”
The former skipper stressed that Bangladesh cricket and its fans deserve better. He added, “Today cricket has lost one hundred percent. First, stop fixing during elections, then think about fixing in cricket. This election has become a black mark for the BCB.”
Tamim strongly criticized the election process, calling it a disgraceful step for Bangladesh cricket. He made it clear that he would speak in greater detail about the matter in the future.
