New Delhi, October 1 (HS): The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Wednesday, the third trading session of the week, with both benchmark indices in the green.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex surged 285.68 points, or 0.36 percent, to trade at 80,553.30, while the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty rose 73.20 points, or 0.30 percent, to 24,684.30.The fresh rally comes in the wake of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) decision on the repo rate and new regulatory changes that took effect from October 1.

In early trade, shares of the Adani Group were among the top gainers. Adani Power climbed over 3 percent, while Adani Total Gas and Adani Green Energy gained more than 2 percent each. Meanwhile, Adani Enterprises, Adani Energy Solutions, and NDTV also traded over 1 percent higher.

On the last trading session of the previous week, Friday, the market had closed marginally lower.

The Sensex had slipped 61.52 points, or 0.08 percent, to settle at 80,364.94, while the Nifty fell 19.80 points, or 0.08 percent, to close at 24,634.90.
