New Delhi, October 1(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today participate as the Chief Guest in the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in the capital. The event, beginning at 10:30 AM, will see the Prime Minister release a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and coin marking 100 years of the Sangh’s founding and legacy.
Established in 1925 in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was envisioned as a people-driven volunteer organization dedicated to instilling discipline, cultural pride, service, and commitment to the nation. Founded during a period of foreign domination, the Sangh built its identity around the vision of national reconstruction rooted in Dharma and devotion to the motherland.
With patriotism and character-building forming its core ethos, the RSS emphasizes values such as self-restraint, courage, and heroism. Volunteers, known as Swayamsevaks, dedicate themselves to the mission of Sarvangeena Unnati—India’s all-round development.
Over the last century, the RSS has played a prominent role in areas of education, healthcare, community service, and national relief operations. Its volunteers have consistently mobilized in the wake of natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, and cyclones, offering relief and rehabilitation to affected communities.
The Sangh, along with its associated organizations, has also contributed toward youth empowerment, women’s participation, farmers’ welfare, and strengthening grassroots institutions.
The centenary celebrations not only commemorate the RSS’ journey over the past 100 years but also underscore its continuing role in India’s social, cultural, and national life.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to highlight these contributions in his address to the gathering.
