Delhi, 1 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and large-scale destruction caused by a powerful earthquake that struck the Philippines earlier on Wednesday.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift and complete recovery. He emphasized that India stands firmly with the people of the Philippines during this hour of tragedy.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the earthquake in the Philippines. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. India stands in solidarity with the Philippines at this difficult time,” the Prime Minister posted, tagging Philippine President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr.
According to initial reports from international media, the earthquake struck regions in the Philippines with significant intensity, leading to the collapse of infrastructure, damage to homes, and disruption of essential services in several affected provinces. Rescue and relief operations are underway as authorities assess the scale of destruction.
India’s expression of solidarity comes as part of India’s long-standing commitment to extend humanitarian support to nations affected by natural disasters. The external affairs ministry is also closely monitoring the situation.
