Kolkata, 1 October (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday paid tribute to legendary physician Dr. Nil Ratan Sircar on his birth anniversary, remembering his monumental contribution to Indian medical science and education.
Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister wrote that Dr. Sircar was a “shining star in Indian medical history” whose memory will continue to inspire generations.
Dr. Nil Ratan Sircar (1861–1943) is remembered not only for taking medical education to new heights but also for his tireless efforts in making healthcare accessible to the common people. He played a pioneering role in giving medical services a new direction in India and actively contributed to several social causes.
In his memory, Kolkata’s renowned Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital continues to stand as a symbol of excellence in healthcare and medical education.
