New Delhi, October 1 (HS): India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues rose 9.1 percent year-on-year in September 2025, crossing ₹1.89 lakh crore, according to official data released on Wednesday. In comparison, collections in August had grown 6.5 percent to ₹1.86 lakh crore.
The Directorate General of GST attributed the higher revenue to increased sales following a rationalisation of GST rates last month. Net GST revenue for September stood at ₹1.60 lakh crore, registering a 5 percent increase on an annual basis.
By contrast, September 2024 collections were ₹1.73 lakh crore.Detailed figures show that domestic GST receipts expanded 6.8 percent to ₹1.36 lakh crore, while import-related taxes surged 15.6 percent to ₹52,492 crore.
Significantly, GST refunds also jumped 40.1 percent year-on-year to ₹28,657 crore.Officials noted that the implementation of GST 2.0 reforms from September 22 has already begun reflecting in revenue collection trends.
As part of this reform, prices of 375 items — ranging from kitchen essentials and medicines to electronic goods, equipment, and automobiles — were reduced.
