Washington, October 1, (HS): US President Donald Trump has claimed that his intervention was pivotal in brokering the ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this year, asserting that his actions helped avert a wider war in the region.

Speaking at a meeting with senior US military leaders at Quantico, Virginia, Trump said Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, personally credited him for “saving millions of lives” by preventing the conflict’s escalation.

Trump recounted that during a recent White House visit by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir, the latter expressed gratitude for his role in halting hostilities. “I love the way he said it,” Trump remarked, while highlighting that his administration had “settled seven wars” within nine months in office, including the India-Pakistan standoff and the Gaza war proposal.

The US President further stated that he had firmly warned both Islamabad and New Delhi that Washington would suspend all trade with them if fighting continued. He underscored that this uncompromising stance was crucial in stopping the violence, though he did not elaborate on reports of aircraft downed during the confrontation.

The conflict erupted in May after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to a major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. A ceasefire was announced on May 10, which New Delhi attributed to direct negotiations conducted by military commanders.

While Pakistani officials initially dismissed Trump’s version of events, Islamabad later acknowledged his role and went on to nominate him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his decisive leadership during the crisis.
