Ramban, 1 October (H.S.): A doctor posted at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal was booked and arrested by the police today for allegedly molesting a pregnant woman. He has also been suspended from service for his misconduct.
The accused, Dr Girdhari Lal Manhas, Consultant Gynaecologist at SDH Banihal, has been booked by Banihal Police under FIR Number 105/2025, registered under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following registration of the case, the police placed him under arrest. The action came after a written complaint was lodged by Nadia Banoo, wife of Assadullah, a resident of Halimaidan, Nagam Banihal. In her complaint, the woman, who is reportedly pregnant, stated that she had visited SDH Banihal for a routine prenatal check-up, during which Dr Manhas molested her, touched her inappropriately, and behaved in an indecent manner.
Meanwhile, the Health and Medical Education Department has ordered the suspension of accused doctor with immediate effect. According to an order issued by Secretary H&ME Department, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, the action was taken pending an enquiry into the conduct of the doctor. During the suspension period, Dr Manhas will remain attached with the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu.
