Jalpaiguri, 1 October (H.S.) Former Forest Minister and five-time MLA of West Bengal, Banamali Roy passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 85. He had been suffering from age-related ailments for a long time.
Banamali Roy was elected MLA from Dhupguri for five consecutive terms and served the constituency for nearly 25 years. He also held the position of Minister for the Scheduled Castes and Tribal Welfare Department of the state. He also served as the Chairman of the Zilla Parishad.
Along with his administrative responsibilities, he also devoted time to the organization and the party. For a long time, he held several important positions, including the Zonal Secretary of the CPM. He was known as a leader of the common people at the grassroots level.
