New Delhi, October 1 (HS): The Congress party on Wednesday raised sharp questions over India’s stance on Palestine after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended support to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh argued that the American proposal ignores crucial issues, including the role of the people of Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state.Taking to social media platform X, Ramesh remarked, “The Prime Minister has expressed solidarity with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but several fundamental questions remain unanswered in the plan — such as whether the local people of Gaza will have any role in governance, and whether there is any concrete initiative towards the creation of an independent Palestinian state.”
Ramesh pointed out that as many as 157 countries have already recognized the State of Palestine, and India itself took the initiative as early as 1988, yet the United States and Israel continue to overlook its legitimacy.
