(Cabinet) Approval for Programs to Mark 150 Years of Vande Mataram

Delhi, 1 October (H.S.): The Central Government will celebrate 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram across the country. In a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, approval was granted for a series of events nationwide connected to this historic occasion.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing a press conference at the National Media Centre, stated that this year marks 150 years of the national song, and it has been decided to celebrate it as a festival. He added that efforts will be made to convey the original spirit of the song to every citizen, especially the youth, to connect them with history. Various programs will be organized throughout the country.

A symbol of patriotism and cultural identity, the song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, and November 7, 2025, will mark its 150th anniversary. On January 24, 1950, the Constituent Assembly of India declared it the national song.

Filled with patriotic fervor, the poem was first published in Chattopadhyay’s novel Anandamath. His composition became a source of inspiration for brave freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence.
