Rapists encounter: Vishwanath Sajjanar hails from Hubballi in Karnataka

Bengaluru,06 December(HS): Vishwanath Sajjanar, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, the IPS officer now being showered with a heap of praises from across the country and several other parts of the world incidentally hails from Hubballi in Karnataka.

It is also not for the first time that the upright IPS officer's name is heard in such heroic feats. He had even encountered an Auto driver, accused in throwing acid on a married woman in Warrangal district. Then he was serving as Superintendent of Police(SP) at Warangal.

The country woke up early in the morning on Friday with the breaking news of the culprits behind the rape and torching to death of 26 years old Veterinary doctor being shot dead in an encounter in the wee hours.

Vishwanath Sajjanar's instant action following an attempt by the culprits to snatch rifle of the Police Commissioner and move to attack the police team with stones as reported has drawn a huge applause over the social networking sites.

The police action has also raised alarms about the genuinity of the police action in some quarters while it has been hailed as "right and proper justice" to the rape and burning to death victim, among general public.

The 1996 batch police officer was allotted Andhra Pradesh cadre and has been serving in the state from then and continued in Telangana state after the unified Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated. 

He has served as SP of eight districts and his stint in Anti Naxal Force brought him many a laurel for persuading the Naxalites to surrender and return to the mainstream.

In fact Vishwanath Sajjanar's father is a native of Asuti village of Ron taluk in Gadag district. However, Vishwanath Sajjanar was born and brought up in Hubballi.

He is a B Com graduate from Jagadguru Gangadhar College of Commerce popularly known as JG College of Commerce. He later did his MBA from Karnataka University, Dharwad.

His family continues to reside at Kanchgar Galli in Hubballi.
