Lucknow, 09 June (HS): Under the leadership of Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is continuously working
towards taking education to the last person in the society and realizing the
goal of an illiteracy-free state. In this sequence, the Nav Bharat Literacy
Program is becoming a medium of positive change in the lives of millions of
people. Under this campaign, run with the aim of making illiterate people above
the age of 15 literate, more than 11.68 lakh people have been made literate in
the state from the year 2022-23 to 2025-26. This campaign is giving new
strength to self-reliance, awareness and social empowerment through education.
State Minister of Basic Education (Independent Charge)
Sandeep Singh said that under the Nav Bharat Literacy Program, sponsored by the
Central Government, illiterate citizens above the age of 15 are being
identified and made literate with the help of volunteers and trained master
trainers. Under the program, beneficiaries are being taught reading, writing,
and arithmetic, as well as basic knowledge useful in daily life, enabling them
to participate more effectively in social and economic activities. By making
millions literate, the government is not only strengthening the fight against
illiteracy but is also playing a vital role in building a self-reliant, aware,
and empowered Uttar Pradesh.
Volunteers identified under the campaign are trained by
trained master trainers. The volunteers then conduct literacy classes both
online and offline. These classes, conducted across the state, are instilling
new confidence in the lives of thousands of people. The government's aim is not
only to provide literacy, but also to empower citizens with awareness,
competence, and self-reliance.
Seven literacy assessment tests have been conducted in the
state so far under the Nav Bharat Literacy Program. A total of 13,81,530
participants took part in these tests, of which 11,68,292 were declared
successful. The test conducted in 2022-23 attracted over 1.46 lakh
participants, while the latest test, conducted in 2025-26, saw participation
from over 4.01 lakh participants. These figures bear witness to the campaign's
growing reach and effectiveness.
The Yogi government has prepared to make the Nav Bharat
Literacy Program more comprehensive and result-oriented in the year 2026-27. In
accordance with the guidelines of the Government of India, all districts in the
state have been assigned the goal of identifying illiterate individuals over
the age of 15 and making them literate. Under this initiative, identified
illiterate individuals will be connected to volunteers who will receive
specialized training from trained master trainers. Volunteers will then conduct
literacy classes online and offline. The campaign's progress will be regularly
monitored, and, as directed by the Government of India, literacy assessment
tests will be conducted twice a year to assess the achievements of the newly literate.
The government's goal is to connect as many people as possible to education,
making them self-reliant, aware, and active participants in mainstream society.
