NEW DELHI, 9 June (H.S.): The Scheduled Tribe Morcha of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a tribute programme at Basera Park on Tuesday to commemorate the 126th death anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. On the occasion, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra, along with State Scheduled Tribe Morcha President C.L. Meena and party workers, paid floral tributes at the memorial dedicated to Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

Speaking at the event, Harsh Malhotra said that Dharti Aaba (Father of the Earth) Bhagwan Birsa Munda left an indelible mark through his struggle for the rights, dignity and freedom of tribal communities despite his short life. He noted that Birsa Munda passed away in Ranchi Jail on June 9, 1900, at the age of just 25, but his ideals and sacrifices continue to inspire millions across the country.

Malhotra said that Birsa Munda was not merely a freedom fighter but also a pioneer of social and cultural awakening. Raising his voice against British colonial rule, the zamindari system and forced labour, he gave the slogan “Abua Dishom, Abua Raj” (Our Land, Our Rule) and led the historic Ulgulan (Great Rebellion).

He further stated that Birsa Munda’s message remains highly relevant even today. The protection of water, forests and land, liberation from superstition and the preservation of self-respect formed the cornerstone of his movement and struggle.

The Delhi BJP President said that although Bhagwan Birsa Munda lived a brief life, he became a lasting source of inspiration for millions. He urged people to embrace Birsa Munda’s ideals in their daily lives and work towards the upliftment of the weaker and marginalised sections of society.
