The India Meteorological Department (India Meteorological Department) on Wednesday forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country over the coming days, as the monsoon continues to advance and a western disturbance becomes active over northwestern India.

According to the IMD, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience strong winds and rain during the afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 42–44°C, while the minimum may remain between 29–31°C. Similar conditions are expected to persist on June 11, with wind speeds potentially reaching 50–70 kmph. Temperatures on that day are likely to remain between 41–43°C (maximum) and 29–31°C (minimum).

The weather agency said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of northeastern states, entire Sikkim, and some areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Over the next 5–7 days, heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 20 cm is likely in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, northeastern India, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

The IMD added that a western disturbance may trigger light to moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds of 50–60 kmph and isolated hailstorms on June 11 and 12.

Favourable conditions are also expected over the next 4–5 days for further advancement of the southwest monsoon into central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, parts of the Bay of Bengal region, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Northwestern India and eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next six days, along with strong winds in some regions.

In central India, rainfall activity is expected in Chhattisgarh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and western Madhya Pradesh between June 10 and 15. Strong winds are likely in parts of these regions between June 10–13, while hailstorms may occur in isolated areas of eastern and western Madhya Pradesh on June 12.

Eastern India is expected to witness rainfall across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha during June 10–15, with isolated heavy rainfall in several pockets. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may receive heavy showers between June 11–13, while Bihar and Odisha are likely to experience intense rainfall spells during the same period.

In northeastern India, rainfall activity is expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between June 10–15. Thunderstorms are likely in several northeastern states between June 11–13, with heavy rainfall expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on June 15, and in other northeastern states during June 10–13.

Western India, including Konkan, Goa, Gujarat region, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada, is expected to receive rainfall between June 10–15, while Saurashtra and Kutch may see showers between June 12–15, accompanied by gusty winds in some areas.

The IMD also noted that parts of the southern peninsula may witness heavy rainfall over the next six days, along with isolated thunderstorm activity, while Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid conditions on June 10–11.
