
Guwahati, 09 June (HS): Chalachitram, a leading cultural organisation of Northeast India and an associate body of the Vishva Samvad Kendra, Assam, will organise its 10th National Film Festival on October 24 and 25 this year. The two-day event will be held at Jyoti Chitraban in Kahilipara, Guwahati, according to a press statement issued by Chalachitram president Nav Thakuria and secretary Bhagawat Pritam.
The organisation has been conducting a national short film festival every year since 2017. Continuing the tradition, a short film competition for films ranging from one minute to 25 minutes in duration will be held this year. The theme of the competition is “Our Heritage, Our Pride.” The festival, organised by Chalachitram in collaboration with Vishva Samvad Kendra, Assam, will be open exclusively to filmmakers from the Northeastern region.
Films based on Indian heritage, indigenous communities, freedom movement heroes, epics and mythology, national integration, art and culture, manuscripts, painting, museums, music, literature, indigenous festivals, monuments, social reform, traditional sports, women empowerment, family values, yoga and Ayurveda, cultural nationalism, tea and oil, environment, agriculture, education, human rights and tourism potential of Northeast India will be accepted for the competition.
Short fiction films, documentaries and animation films on themes such as Indian culture, tradition, women, patriotism, the digital world, development, environment, nature and family values will also be eligible. In addition, short and feature-length films aligned with the objectives of the festival may be submitted for screening.
According to the organisers, films produced between September 1, 2025 and September 1, 2026 will be eligible for participation. Entries can be submitted free of cost from June 10 to June 30. A fee of Rs 500 will be applicable for submissions from July 1 to July 19, while entries submitted between July 20 and September 2 will require a fee of Rs 1,000.
Meanwhile, Vishva Samvad Kendra, Assam secretary Kishore Shivam announced the formation of a full-fledged committee for Chalachitram, with senior journalist Nav Thakuria as president and actor-director Bhagawat Pritam as secretary.------------
