New Delhi, 24 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared an article written by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on the occasion of Sikkim Statehood Day, commending the northeastern state for its rich cultural heritage, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development model. The Prime Minister noted that the article portrays Mount Kanchenjunga as the guardian of Sikkim’s land, memory, and collective consciousness, guiding the state’s vision of “Viksit Sikkim-2047.”
In a message posted on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said that as Sikkim enters the 51st year of its statehood, Scindia has eloquently highlighted the state’s identity, traditions, and development journey through the symbolism of Kanchenjunga’s five treasures. He remarked that these five legacies illuminate Sikkim’s path toward the vision of “Viksit Sikkim-2047.”
In his article published in an English daily newspaper, Scindia described Sikkim as a model of social harmony, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable growth. He wrote that the state’s progress extends far beyond infrastructure development and has evolved through public trust, ecological protection, and adherence to cultural values.
Referring to Mount Kangchenjunga as the soul of Sikkim, Scindia stated that the Himalayan peak is not merely a geographical landmark but also a symbol of the state’s collective consciousness, faith, and traditions. He highlighted the five treasures associated with Kanchenjunga — gold, silver, precious gems, grains, and sacred scriptures — describing them as representations of Sikkim’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
The article further emphasized that Sikkim is India’s first fully organic state, offering a unique model that balances economic development with environmental preservation. Scindia identified clean energy, organic farming, and sustainable tourism as the foundational pillars of the state’s future growth trajectory.
He also noted that development initiatives in Sikkim have progressed with active participation from local communities. Despite the expansion of roads, digital connectivity, and tourism infrastructure, continuous efforts have been made to preserve ecological balance. The article additionally explored Sikkim’s cultural diversity, Buddhist monasteries, indigenous traditions, and longstanding social harmony in considerable detail.
Expressing confidence in the state’s future, Scindia said that in the coming years Sikkim could emerge as a national inspiration in the fields of green development, knowledge-based economy, and sustainable tourism. He added that Sikkim’s developmental journey presents a powerful example of harmonizing modernity with tradition.
