New Delhi, 24 May (H.S.): India on Sunday dispatched the first consignment of humanitarian medical assistance to Africa to help contain the rapidly escalating Ebola public health emergency across several parts of the continent. The aid has been sent to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared the announcement on social media platform X, reaffirming India’s solidarity with African nations confronting the outbreak. “India stands firmly with Africa in addressing the emerging Ebola public health emergency,” he said, adding that New Delhi remains fully committed to supporting the continent during the crisis.
The assistance package includes essential medical supplies, protective equipment, and specialized safety kits for healthcare workers. These resources are intended to strengthen infection-control measures, support patient care, and ensure the safety of frontline medical personnel working in affected regions.
With Ebola cases rising in several African countries, the international community has increasingly emphasized the urgent need for coordinated global support and humanitarian assistance. Against this backdrop, India’s initiative is being viewed as a significant demonstration of international solidarity and strategic global partnership.
Health experts have underlined that rapid medical intervention, adequate protective equipment, and close international cooperation are critical to containing highly infectious diseases such as Ebola. India has previously extended medical aid, vaccines, medicines, and emergency healthcare support to multiple countries during global health crises.
The Indian government has also indicated that additional consignments of relief and medical assistance could be dispatched in the coming days if required, in order to further strengthen healthcare response efforts in the affected nations.
