Ahmedabad, 24 May (H.S.): The 75th edition of the nationwide “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” initiative witnessed massive public participation across more than 8,000 locations throughout the country on Sunday. The flagship event, held at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, brought together thousands of cyclists and fitness enthusiasts alongside Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana.

The Ahmedabad event featured a five-kilometre cycling rally accompanied by yoga and Zumba performances, transforming the Sabarmati Riverfront into a vibrant celebration of fitness, culture, and India’s growing sporting ecosystem. One of the major highlights of the programme was the inauguration of a special Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition by Dr. Mandaviya, showcasing India’s sporting achievements, sports infrastructure development under the Khelo India mission, and the country’s expanding sports ecosystem in the lead-up to the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The programme also featured a wide range of engaging activities, including pickleball, box cricket, volleyball, and tug of war competitions, creating a festive atmosphere for participants across all age groups. Another key attraction was a unique performance that blended the traditional spirit of garba with the scientific discipline of yoga, presented by renowned artist Anish Rangrez.

In addition, Dr. Pawan Kumar from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga interacted with participants through wellness counselling and guidance sessions, promoting holistic fitness and healthy living.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the day was especially significant as it marked both the 75th edition of “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” and the observance of Commonwealth Games Day. He expressed pride that Gujarat would host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and said it was inspiring to witness thousands of people gathering early in the morning in support of fitness and nation-building.

He further stated that if India genuinely aims to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), every citizen must prioritize fitness and healthy living. “Cycling is not merely exercise; it is a movement,” he said, adding that it helps maintain physical fitness, reduces pollution, and conserves fuel, in line with the Prime Minister’s appeal for lower fuel consumption.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi remarked that the entire city of Ahmedabad had come alive for “Fit India Sundays on Cycle,” and expressed happiness over the overwhelming public response. He said the sight of thousands of citizens participating in fitness and sporting activities early in the morning reflected growing awareness and enthusiasm for healthy living.

Actor and Fit India icon Ayushmann Khurrana said he was delighted to see people of all age groups participating enthusiastically and enjoying the event with immense energy. He described the collaboration between the Fit India movement and the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games as a meaningful initiative that is helping foster a sporting culture among young Indians. Calling “Sundays on Cycle” a highly engaging and forward-looking campaign, he praised its role in inspiring healthier lifestyles across the country.
