Alappuzha, 24 May (H.S.):
AlappuzhaMLA A.D. Thomas is preparing to initiate further legal action in connection with the alleged assault by the Chief Minister’s gunman during the Nava Kerala Yatra in Alappuzha. The proposed action is expected to be directed against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar, amid allegations that he interfered in the investigation process and attempted to influence the outcome of the case.
According to sources, A.D. Thomas also plans to submit a formal complaint to the Chief Minister against the senior police officer. The complaint is expected to allege that there was interference aimed at derailing the investigation and weakening the case.
The development comes after findings that reportedly emerged during a Special Investigation Team (SIT) reinvestigation into the matter. As part of the fresh probe, the officer who had initially investigated the case was reportedly questioned again. During the inquiry, the officer is said to have stated that ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, who was in charge of law and order responsibilities at the time, had called him and instructed him to alter the original report.
The SIT report is understood to have highlighted the matter as a serious violation of procedural norms and conduct. The observations in the report have intensified scrutiny surrounding the role of senior police officials in handling the case.
With new details continuing to emerge, indications suggest that departmental-level action may also be considered against those found responsible. The latest revelations have strengthened A.D. Thomas’s decision to intensify legal proceedings and pursue further action against ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar.
The case has once again drawn attention to questions surrounding the functioning and accountability of the police investigation process in politically sensitive matters.
