Delhi,8 August(HS): In a move to further ease import procedures and enhance trade facilitation, the Government of India has revised the advance registration periods under the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) 2.0 portal. The revised rules, effective from August 5, 2025, introduce country-specific timelines for steel consignments—excluding certain items under HS heading 7204 of ITC(HS), 2022.

Importers from Nepal and Bhutan must now register not earlier than 60 days and not later than 2 days before the shipment's expected arrival. For the UAE and Oman, the timeframe is from 60 days up to 4 days prior to the arrival date. Shipments from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia require registration at least 5 days before arrival, but not earlier than 60 days.

For designated steel scrap items under heading 7204, the registration period remains uniformly between 60 and 2 days before expected arrival.

This update, which retains all previous conditions outlined in the government's June 13, 2025, notice, is designed to simplify compliance, reduce delays, and promote smoother trade in steel products.
