New Delhi, May 13 (HS): The Delhi High Court has granted permission to nine expelled students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to participate in their examinations. A bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan stated that the petitioners, the nine students, should be allowed to sit for their final examinations and that no punitive action should be taken against them until further orders. The next hearing in the case will take place on May 28.
The High Court issued a notice to the JNU administration in this matter, directing it to submit a response within a week. The court also instructed the JNU administration not to take any action regarding the expulsion of the petitioning students from their hostel.
During the hearing, the Advocate representing the expelled students mentioned that the petitioning students are about to take their final year exams. He argued that the JNU administration did not hear their side before issuing the expulsion order against them. The administration did not provide them an opportunity to present their case during the investigation conducted by JNU. Therefore, according to the principle of natural justice, the decision to expel the nine students by the JNU administration is arbitrary and illegal.
