- Assam govt honours 28 writers with Literary Pension and Awards for 2025

Guwahati, 07 December (HS): The Higher Education Department of the Assam Government conferred the 2025 Literary Pension and Awards on 28 distinguished writers and literary figures at a special event titled “Kothashilpikoloi Sroddhanjali” organised at Cotton University on the birth anniversary of eminent writer Homen Borgohain.

As part of the initiative, 18 writers from various parts of the state and representing different languages were honoured with literary awards, while 10 writers received literary pensions for their contribution to enriching Assam’s linguistic and literary landscape.

Attending the event as the chief guest, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that digital platforms are essential tools for popularising literature among the new generation. He noted that integrating modern technology with literary study and research would help expand and revitalise Assam’s literary sphere. Citing how world literature has embraced digital formats, the Minister highlighted that books today can not only be read but also listened to through technology.

Dr. Pegu expressed hope that greater focus on digitising Assamese and other regional literature of Assam would enhance their reach and acceptance among younger readers. He added that, like the sciences, the literary field too demands a high level of competence and stressed the need to nurture creativity and literary skills.

The event was attended by Dispur MLA Atul Bora, Cotton University Vice Chancellor Ramesh Chandra Deka, Professor of English at Gauhati University and son of Homen Borgohain, Pradip Borgohain, along with several distinguished personalities.---------------
