Varanasi,
7 Dec (HS): A 45-year-old cricket coach was detained here on Sunday for
allegedly sodomizing two juvenile boys, police said. On Saturday, a case was
filed against coach Muralilal under the Protection of Children from Sexual
Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of legislation, after a
complaint filed by the boys' families. According to authorities, the offender
was apprehended shortly thereafter.
According
to Bhelupur Additional Commissioner of Police Gaurav Kumar, the parents said
that their sons, ages 14 and 15, used to train under Murarilal. The offenders
reportedly sexually attacked one youngster in Lucknow on the guise of
performing medical checks for the on-14 squad. Later, he abused the second
youngster for three days, according to the ACP.
According
to officials, the event came to light after one of the boys became unwell and
was brought to a private hospital, where he reported it during a medical
examination. They said Murarilal, a divorcee, was detained by Lanka Police in
2021 for sodomizing youngsters in exchange for their admission to a Central
school.
The
accused confessed to the police that he had molested more than 500 children in
the past five years. Bhelupur Inspector Sudhir Kumar Tripathi's team arrested
the accused, Murarilal, from the Sirgovardhan area. During interrogation, the
accused admitted that he had previously committed similar heinous acts with
other children.
More
than 500 children have been targeted since 2020. In 2021, the Lankan police
sent the accused to jail in a case of unnatural rape on the pretext of getting
children admitted to BHU Kendriya Vidyalaya.
ACP
Bhelupur stated that the accused has no family support. His wife divorced him
before the COVID-19 pandemic due to his misconduct. FIRs have been filed
against him at the Lanka and Bhelupur police stations under various charges,
including POCSO. Bhelupur Inspector Sudhir Kumar Tripathi stated that the
accused targeted only teenagers. He became emboldened by the fact that
teenagers didn't speak up.
Falling
to his knees before the police, he declared that he no longer wanted to live:
After being arrested, the accused, Murarilal, fell to his knees while appearing
before the media. He folded his hands and apologized to the police, telling
them that he no longer wanted to live. He regretted his actions.
