Delhi, 4 November (H.S.): South Africa's young batsman Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan after sustaining a shoulder muscle strain. The injury occurred during the third T20I match in Lahore on Saturday.Cricket South Africa has not yet announced a replacement for Brevis. The 22-year-old batsman will remain in Pakistan to undergo rehabilitation.

Following the Pakistan tour, the team is scheduled to travel to India for a series that includes two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20 matches.Brevis participated in all matches of the Pakistan tour but had a modest outing.

In six innings across the Test and T20 series, his highest score was 54. In his ODI career so far, he has scored 110 runs in six matches with a best of 49. Despite his recent form, Brevis is considered a future star for South African cricket.

The injury adds to the selection challenges for South Africa, which has already rested key all-format players like Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada. The team is also without fast bowlers Quena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje, who are sidelined with injuries.Matthew Breetzke, who made his ODI debut this year, will captain the side.

The team will rely on the experience of veteran Quinton de Kock, who is returning to 50-over cricket after reversing his ODI retirement.Pakistan won the three-match T20 series 2-1, while the Test series ended in a 1-1 draw. The upcoming ODI matches will be played in Faisalabad, which will host its first men's international match since 2008.
