
NAINITAL, 4 November (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, addressing the 20th convocation ceremony of Kumaun University on Tuesday, stated that education not only makes individuals self-reliant but also teaches them humility and inspires them to contribute to the development of society and the country.
Speaking at the event in Nainital, the President described education as the foundation of a nation's development, emphasizing that it should build not only intellectual and practical skills but also moral strength and character. She urged the graduating students to dedicate their learning to serving the underprivileged and for nation-building, calling this a true religion that brings genuine happiness and satisfaction.
The President highlighted that India's economy is one of the fastest-growing in the world and that government policies are creating numerous opportunities for the youth. She called on higher education institutions to take all necessary steps to encourage young people to utilize these opportunities effectively.
Stressing the importance of promoting research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, President Murmu praised Kumaun University for its commitment to excellence in these fields. She noted the critical role of a multidisciplinary approach for the proper application of education and research.
Given the university's location, she also underscored the collective responsibility to conserve the life-giving resources of the Himalayas and commended the institution for its conscious efforts toward environmental protection.
President Murmu reminded the university community of its social responsibilities, urging faculty and students to visit nearby villages, understand the challenges faced by residents, and contribute to finding solutions.
She connected the students' futures to the national goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, stating that young people have a significant role to play in achieving this vision. She expressed confidence that the graduates would fulfill their role with their talent and dedication.
Earlier in the day, the President offered prayers at the Naina Devi Temple in Nainital and also visited the Shri Neem Karoli Baba Ashram at Kainchi Dham.
