Washington, 14 November (H.S.): The White House confirmed on Friday that President Donald Trump will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, in 2026. This marks a significant return to the global stage for the U.S. President at the prestigious gathering of international political and business leaders.
The 2026 summit, scheduled for January 19-23, will be held under the theme A Spirit of Dialogue. The agenda will focus on five key global challenges: cooperation in a contested world, unlocking new sources of growth, investing in people, responsibly deploying innovation, and building prosperity within planetary boundaries.
The World Economic Forum has extended invitations to the heads of government and state of the G20 and other nations, including President Trump.President Trump is expected to travel with a large entourage, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
His previous engagement with the forum was in 2025, when he addressed the attendees via a video link shortly after his inauguration. His last in-person appearance was in 2018, making him the first sitting U.S. president to attend in nearly two decades. During his 2018 address, he declared that America is open for business and promoted his America First agenda.
The decision to attend the 2026 forum is seen by some analysts as a move to reassert American engagement with the rest of the world and to counter criticisms of a potential shift towards isolationism. It also signals warming relations between the United States and Switzerland as the two nations move closer to a trade deal.
The official list of confirmed participants for the 2026 meeting will be published by the World Economic Forum one week before the event.
