New Delhi, 11 December (H.S.): So far more than 81.64 lakh women have been helped across the country through Mahila Helpline. This information was given by Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur in Rajya sabha in response to a question on Wednesday.

She said that the goal of Mahila Helpline is to provide emergency and non-emergency response to women in both public and private places through number 181, round the year.

Mahila Helpline Scheme was launched on April 1, 2015. It is a component of the Sambal Vertical under Mission Shakti. It aims to provide emergency and non-emergency response through telephonic short-code 181 by linking women to appropriate authorities like police, one stop centre, hospitals, legal services authorities etc.

Additionally, it provides information about women welfare schemes and programmes. At present, women helplines are operational throughout the country except West Bengal.
