Rahul Gandhi's remarks harm Cong, party is sinking: Rijiju

New Delhi, 23 March (HS): Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi's remarks have caused damage to the Congress party. He said that the leaders of the Congress party are also worried that the party is sinking because of Rahul's statements.

Rijiju's comments came after a Gujarat court convicted Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha member from Wayanad, for his 'Modi surname' remarks and sentenced him to two years in jail.

Asked to comment on the Congress leader's sentence, Rijiju told reporters, Whatever Rahul Gandhi says, it causes harm. It harms not only the party but also others. This is not good for the country.

The senior BJP leader said some Congress MPs had told him that the party was sinking due to Rahul Gandhi's attitude. Rijiju said, “Some Congress leaders have told me that Rahul Gandhi's style of functioning has messed things up. This is harming his party. His party is sinking.

It is noteworthy that during the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Rahul Gandhi had commented against 'Modi surname'. He had said that “How come all thieves have Modi as their surname?” Following this comment, BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi lodged a complaint. Today, in this case, the court of Surat has sentenced him to two years.

In the matter, MP from Surat, Darshana Jardosh says that she has full faith in the judicial process and today the court has done justice in the case of Rahul Gandhi.

Gujarat BJP President CR Patil also criticised Rahul Gandhi saying that he has no control over his language. His statement had created anger in the 'Modi' community.
