Shahjahanpur, 17 Aug (HS): According to jail officials, an undertrial inmate at Shahjahanpur district jail hanged himself on Wednesday. Rajesh Rai, a jailer in the Shahjahanpur district jail, stated, Sailesh Kumar Gupta, who had been imprisoned since April in a dowry death case, committed suicide. In the afternoon, he hanged himself with a hook in the corridor using a piece of cloth. Gupta told other inmates he was going to the bathroom as he exited his barrack.

The body was turned over to police by the jail staff. The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
