Sensex falls 350 points, Nifty trading near 15,700 on Tuesday morning


New Delhi, 28 June (HS): The BSE Sensex was down 350 points to 52,810, while the broader NSE Nifty was down 106 points to 15,627.

M&M, Dr Reddy's, Reliance, Tata Steel, ITC, and Maruti were the only Sensex-30 gainers. Other Nifty winners included ONGC, BPCL, and JSW Steel.

Meanwhile, Titan, Asian Paints, Bajaj twins, HDFC, PowerGrid, ICICI Bank, Wipro, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Auto, and Adani Ports led losses on the two indices.

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were also in the red, falling up to 0.5%.

On the NSE, 14 of the 15 sector indices were trading in the red. Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Financial Services sub-indices underperformed the NSE platform by as much as 1.68 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively.

Titan was the top Nifty loser, with the stock falling 3.06 percent to Rs 1,977.95. Among the laggards were Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, Adani Ports, and Bajaj Finserv.

On the BSE, the overall market breadth was negative, with 940 shares advancing and 1,324 declining.

On Monday, the BSE Sensex rose 433 points (0.82 percent) to close at 53,161, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 133 points (0.85 percent) to close at 15,832.

Meanwhile, Asian stocks fell in early trade, mirroring a volatile Wall Street session the previous day.

In early trade on Tuesday, the rupee fell 22 paise to a record low of 78.59 against the US dollar, as persistent foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiment.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 78.53 against the US dollar, then fell to 78.59, its all-time low, representing a 22-paise drop from the previous close.
