Lucknow, 13 May (HS): The Government of Uttar Pradesh has taken the unprecedented step of modernising 2,000 rice mills across the State.
These units will be modernized with cutting-edge technology to produce high-quality grains that can command higher market prices.
According to sources, the entire initiative is intended to help Uttar Pradesh achieve its aim of self-sufficiency in food and nutrition security. The revamp will improve both job growth and income production.
According to Sorabh Babu, Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies, private rice mills in Uttar Pradesh would be modernised in accordance with the government's statutory rules.
The department will shortly hold a meeting with the UP Rice Milers Association and millers to discuss how to make this ambition a goal for everyone. Rice milling, the country's oldest agro-processing sector, is also one of the main participants in the food grain market. Modernization and upgrading will greatly enhance the quality of domestic output and, eventually, contribute to increased nutrition security.
New technologies to boost rice production and quality: According to reports, there are around 757 big mills in the state with a milling capacity of more than 4 tonnes per hour. There are 1157 smaller units, with a milling capacity of less than four MT per hour. Traditional machinery limits capacity at smaller size mills, and this old equipment has an influence on the quality of the output. Rice prepared by such companies does not meet FCI (Food Corporation of India) requirements and standards, resulting in reduced costs.
The Department of Food and Civil Supplies will encourage rice millers to employ technology for this reason. Soon, a set of criteria will be devised for the appointment of rice mills that employ modern machinery. It should be highlighted that the government will not give financing for this. Rice millers, on the other hand, would be recommended to seek loans from MSMEs.
The Department of Food and Civil Supplies will stimulate rice millers and involve them in the use of technology for this aim. Soon, a criterion for empanelment of rice mills that employ modern machinery will be created. It should be stressed that the government will not fund this. Rice millers, on the other hand, would be recommended to obtain loans through MSMEs.
