New Delhi, 24 November (HS): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman interacted with representatives of service and business sectors in the fifth pre-budget meeting. While presiding over the meeting organised through video conferencing on Thursday, Sitharaman discussed several issues of the budget for the financial year 2023-24.

In the fifth episode of pre-budget consultations, the exporters demanded measures like providing loans at cheaper rates and creation of funds in the upcoming budget. They said that it is necessary to do this to promote exports and increase employment opportunities.

In a pre-budget meeting, the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) told the Finance Minister that rupee depreciation against the US dollar was affecting the competitiveness of exports. In view of this, this sector needs more support.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chowdhary and Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad were also involved in the fifth pre-budget meeting along with Nirmala Sitharaman. Apart from this, Finance Secretary TV Somanathan, Secretaries of other departments of the Ministry of Finance and Chief Economic Advisor Ananth Nageswaran were present in the meeting.
