PRAYAGRAJ, Dec 7 (HS): North Central Railway has been awarded second prize under transport category in 31st National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2021. The results were announced on Tuesday morning. It is worth mentioning that NCR is observing National Energy conservation week and the award ceremony will be held on 14th December at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi. A total of 408 applicants participated for NECA 2021 till closing date.

The Ministry of Power, Government of India has launched a scheme in 1991, to give national recognition through awards to industries and establishments that have taken special efforts to reduce energy consumption while maintaining their production.

BEE, under the guidance of Ministry of Power, recognizes and encourages endeavors of industrial units, institutions and establishments in reducing energy consumption by felicitating them with National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, celebrated on 14th December every year.

This year, the NECA awards are being organized as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

The National Energy Conservation Awards are given to the energy-intensive units of various sectors of the Indian economy for their exceptional achievements in reducing the specific energy consumption. A total of 408 applicants participated for NECA 2021 till closing date. GM NCR Pramod Kumar congratulated the staff and officers for this landmark achievement and appeals to maintain the momentum in the field of energy conservation.

List of Major Energy Conservation Measures undertaken by North Central Railway (NCR)

Principal Chief Electrical Engineer NCR Satish Kothari informed about various initiatives taken by NCR in this direction.

In line with National initiative on solar mission, North Central Railway has attached top most priority to Solar Energy generation. Rooftop Solar Power Plants of 11.03 MWp capacity have been commissioned at different locations over NCR.

Utmost emphasis has been laid on Solar Energy Generation in Mission Mode.

Electrification of LC Gates through Solar Photo Voltaic Module.

All the Railway Stations, Workshops, Loco sheds, Offices, Residential Quarters have been provided with 100% Energy Efficient LED luminaries.

Use of Energy Efficient 3 Star & above labelled Electrical appliances/ equipment i.e. Air Conditioners, Water Coolers, Pumps, Geysers etc.

Star Rating of Building/Stations/Big Load Centers.

Use of automatic power factor correction panels in HT/LT panels.

Review of Contract Demand viz. a viz. Maximum Demand.

Replacement of conventional geysers in rest houses, lobbies, Retiring rooms, Hospitals, Running rooms, Canteen, Base kitchen by solar geysers.

LED Station Name Boards & Sign Boards.

Astronomical Timer switch on high mast towers-yard lighting/street lighting/Circulating area.

Use of occupancy sensors for lighting control.

Use of energy efficient VVVF control for lifts & escalators.

Provision of Energy Efficient Ceiling fans.

89% of track over NCR territory has already been electrified & 100% by June -2022 for reducing train operation on diesel.

Energy Regeneration in 3- Phase AC Electric Locomotives over NCR.

Provision of Head-on-Generation (HOG) in LHB coaches through HOG compliance locomotives to reduce Diesel consumption of power cars.

240 pairs of trains are running with HOG scheme over NCR, out of which, 22 pairs are running with NCR rakes. 2 Crore units (kWh) of electrical energy amounting to Rs. 12 Crores per month have been saved through energy regeneration in 3-Phase locomotives.

Web based Energy Monitoring System at major load centre & in TSS and in Loco.
