
Hooghly, 09 June (H.S.): Hooghly district police on Monday arrested two persons in connection with an alleged extortion case based on a written complaint lodged by Mousumi Biswas, Councillor of Uttarpara-Kotrung Municipality under Uttarpara Police Station area.
The arrested accused have been identified as Subhajyoti Chakraborty (35) and Tanmoy Sardar (32). According to police sources, Subhajyoti Chakraborty is a resident of Makhla Government Colony and was associated with YouTube and social media-based media activities. Tanmoy Sardar is a resident of Makhla Shitala Tala, Jora Mandir area. Both are residents under the jurisdiction of Uttarpara Police Station in Hooghly district.
The police claimed that the two accused had allegedly gone to extort money from the councillor and were caught red-handed. A specific case has been registered at Uttarpara Police Station in connection with the incident.
Both the arrested accused will be produced before the ACJM Court in Serampore on Tuesday. The police have started a detailed investigation into the matter.
